Darpana Cafe – for Ms Spence…

In 1999 when I first came to Darpana the wonderful Victoria Spence was in residence on an Asia Link residency. She worked with the Natrani company and also sourced and created this cafe… inspired by Antoni Gaudi she worked with Director Mallika Sarabhai to design and develop the cafe, it’s layout and the materials for the designs. She trawled through river beds, factories, roadside waste to bring the most beautiful pieces together and present them in an environment that is used daily – except for when I took the pictures… 8am. A long lasting legacy.
